(ITA) Mostra “Rinascimento visto da Sud. Matera, l’Italia meridionale e il Mediterraneo tra ‘400 e ‘500”
Who said that the Renaissance is only a matter of the Central and the North of Italy? Let's try to change perspective, starting from the South, from the shores of that Mediterranean Sea that has always been a crossroads of cultures and civilizations, of people and arts. We will discover a different Renaissance, which dialogues with Florence, Milan, Rome and Venice without losing its peculiarity.
Therefore, the exhibition offers to the Italian and international public an authentic treasure chest. Key exhibition of the cultural program of Matera European Capital of Culture 2019, the exhibition offers 215 works in the eight rich sections: first of all paintings, but also
sculptures, incunabula, sixteenth-century editions, manuscripts, illuminated manuscripts, fabrics, bronzes, ceramics, astrolabes and jewelery. Unique pieces, granted by the major museums and major cultural institutions of the whole South Italy, including the Islands, but also by the rest of the country and by the great museums of Spain, France, Germany and Portugal alongside works of incredible beauty and charm, many never left the institutions of belonging and a part of them (more than thirty), involved in a special campaign of conservative interventions that have given back them perfect readability.
